Extending the Syllabus Model:

Intellidemia™ adds file and notification capabilities to Concourse™

Troy, NY Jan 22, 2010 – Intellidemia is expanding their online syllabus solution, Concourse, with the ability to embed file content directly in the syllabus and notify students automatically when edits or changes have been made. These two key innovations make it easier than ever for instructors to administer courses, share information efficiently, and keep their students up-to-date.

The addition of files provides instructors with a way to insert uploaded content directly into their syllabus, so slideshows, projects, homeworks, and readings can be integrated seamlessly into the syllabus experience. With files embedded in the syllabus, students can quickly and easily find any file they need as they are accessed right from the part of the syllabus to which they are relevant. Intellidemia's CEO, Judd Rattner believes that the implementation of files to Concourse could create a new paradigm in academic solutions because of the ability to tie course content to the blueprint of the course and simplify the search for course information.

"With files, students can get all the information they need without ever navigating away from the place where their course information is already found. While other models categorize based on their function (files, discussion boards, grades, etc.), Concourse brings together all course information using the syllabus as the organizing theme. Uniting course content and the syllabus is a major step towards our goal of making the academic experience richer and more engaging.

Along the same lines, notifications gives instructors and other syllabus contributors a way to inform students about modifications, all automatically and without leaving the syllabus editor. Once a change is made to a syllabus, collaborators are invited to send a message to those enrolled in the course without having to enter a single email address. The message also contains information about where the change was made and directs uses to that point on the syllabus.

Both features are a part of Intellidemia's drive to simplify the ways that information is discovered, managed, and used in academia. The search for and ability to easily access information by students, instructors, and administrators is a major reason for the development of files and notifications, says Rattner.

"Our users loved the ease of using online syllabi with Concourse but wanted to see more. They asked for more course content and easier ways to update others, driving us to develop file and notification extensions for our already popular platform. Now with easier access and expanded content capabilities, our users can focus on what matters: their studies, research, and getting their work done."
