Bill Wales, Assistant Professor of Entrepreneurship at James Madison University
"Living in a green way has always been a passion of mine. Conserving and recycling at home always seemed to be a ‘no brainer’, as I’d like to see the next generation prosper in a healthy world. Being a Professor I've questioned what I could do to help progress the ideals of sustainability while in the classroom. Through some personal research I’ve found that by making greater use of online course tools I could not only improve the environment but also help my students learn more productively. I've explored the use of learning management systems and online syllabi and so far I've seen tremendous results. My class is now virtually paperless and by using such online resources, and my students have prospered to a great extent as well. They are increasingly organized and input more during discussions. It seems the more you work to interact on a level students understand, the more they are willing to give back to the class. Using online tools as the backbone of a course, both students and the environment will prosper now and in the future."
