How is Concourse different from everyone else?

So what exactly is Concourse? Concourse is an online content management solution that uses the syllabus as the central organizational theme for data. While Concourse does contain information that is found in learning management or student information systems, Concourse is neither. Rather Concourse fits comfortably between both systems and adds functionality not available in either. By using a "living syllabus" to organize course information, finding up-to-date information is easier and faster.

The beauty of Concourse is in its simplicity. The course syllabus has been used for decades as the document of choice for organizing and administering course activities. Instructors universally understand this document and we have modeled our syllabus system with this as a foundational element. Even the syllabus editing interface looks and feels like a paper syllabus, which has significantly lowered the bar for faculty adoption.

But what separates Concourse from other educational information systems is the richness of the data. The syllabus by its very nature has a tremendous amount of valuable information. It sets deliverable schedules. It communicates expectations. It demonstrates institutional policies. And it captures course outcomes used in the accreditation process. However, much of the value of this information is never realized because syllabi come in many different formats and expressions. Even worse, the information is often times locked in paper and cannot be easily shared or analyzed.

That's where Concourse comes in. As syllabus information is entered into Concourse, it is structured in such a way that enables a host of applications not supported by our learning management and student information peers. For example, you can deploy a common syllabus format with integrated institution policies. You can take pieces of every syllabus and publish them in a "live" course catalog. You can even search for keywords throughout every syllabus, making information retrieval and report generation faster than ever before.
